TARC is dedicated to provide significant educational and training impacts in our local schools and communities. Our goal is to attract and retain students in STEM related disciplines through the introduction of Amateur Radio activities, principles, and operations which will provide teachers with the necessary knowledge to integrate Amateur Radio theory as it applies to the mathematical, scientific, and technical, concepts taught in the classroom.
As such, TARC teamed with the SC Department of Employment and Workforce and four area schools to write a winning proposal resulting in receiving an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contract. An ARISS contact is a voice-only communication opportunity via Amateur Radio between astronauts and cosmonauts aboard the space station and classrooms and communities. ARISS contacts afford educational audiences the opportunity to learn firsthand from astronauts what it is like to live and work in space and to learn about space research conducted on the ISS. Students also will have an opportunity to learn about satellite communication, wireless technology, and radio science. Hopefully some students will become licensed.
Congratulations to the TARC ARISS team consisting of: Jim KO4MNB, Tom AJ4UQ, Greg KB1AWM, Steve K4OPZ and Steve KO4AFL.
